Oh Saturday, thank you for giving me time to blog about classroom math and science fun!
My little kinders have been busy learning about density, clouds, clocks and animals! Wow!
January is such a fun time of year because Suddenly I'm not concerned about their ABC's and the kids are really understanding these tougher topics. Yes!
In Science, I was teaching the kids about density and using oil and water specifically to show them what a little difference in density means. The kids got to pour water and oil into a test tube and then add a color tablet, to dye the water. This was so fun for the kiddos and they so easily understood that oil is less dense than water because it's floating on top of the water. I tell you, this one is a parent pleaser!
In science, we are also studying clouds. I love teaching the kids about various types of clouds, taking them outside on cloud hunts and then making our own clouds with chalk (I've seen this done with cotton balls also).
I tell you, when they go home talking about Cumulonimbus Clouds, their parents are recommending our school to everyone they meet!
In math, we started learning how to read analog clocks. In the past, I have given little foam clocks to the kids and we do a lot of worksheets that involve telling time. This year I tried this clock that we've all seen on Pinterest, but I haven't had the energy to make.
. . . until I saw this:
Granted, we only got through the clock portion so far (snowman details are coming on Monday)- but they are totally working. The kids understand telling time better than my kids ever have before! Yay!
I suggest prepping by having a couple of kids cut out the clock hands and sticking brass fasteners through them ahead of time. This made life so easy!
Last, but certainly not least, as an at-home project the kids make ANIMAL DIORAMAS each year. I am always so impressed at their creativity!
Check out a few of my favorites!
How cute!!!
Okay, I'm exhausted from all of the fun we had this week!
What are you doing in Math and Science with your little ones?
Also, don't forget to enter this giveaway, hosted by my buddy, Kimberly Ann! It is SO SWEET!

I down loaded this clock activity the other day! I am looking forward to using it this week. I love the idea of the flaps to show time for the 5 minute increments!

ReplyDeleteSo happy your kiddos liked the clocks. Great idea to prep a little before hand! I think the learning that comes from using the clocks is worth it, even though it was a little time consuming. Your science activities look awesome! I got a lot of great ideas from this post :)
