I'm linking up with Miss Kindergarten about what I've learned from teaching. . . Kindergarten!

1. Love is the answer!
Love your children no matter what. Find that something special about each student and tell them out loud what you love about them as individuals.

2. You never know when you will have an emergency or need to send a naughty kiddo out of the room. Make BFFs with the teacher next door. I would die without my favorite next door neighbor, Ms. Kimberly Ann!

3. You never know when someone will puke everywhere or pee everywhere or. . . you get it!
Make BFFs with the custodians!

4. Reflecting daily/weekly WILL make you a better teacher. I was not the best at this, so I started a blog.

It is such a fun way to reflect on what is working and what is not, in your classroom.

5. All children are geniuses. Always hold your students to the highest standard. The second that you lower your standards of them, they will do the same.

6. It's okay to go home and bawl your eyes out on a hard day. Just do it at home and come back with a great attitude and more determination the next day.

7.  Put in that hard work up front!!! My first year, I didn't sleep. It's much like having a baby. I was so concerned about my students and being a good teacher, that I would show up when it was still dark outside and leave when it was dark outside. I'd get home and go straight to work, creating and pulling resources. If I had known about TPT, this would have saved me a ton of time. I hardly slept and was a secret, emotional wreck. However, it's been a breeze ever since.

8. Your students ARE NOT little adults. You WILL repeat yourself a million times a day and if you accept this now, you'll save yourself frustration later. Walk into work knowing that you are with CHILDREN and they will not pay attention or listen most of the time. Don't get frustrated when they have no clue what to do, because it is an inevitable part of the position.

9. Verbal gratitude will make your day easier. If you say out loud on your way to school, "I am so grateful for such a rewarding career and I love my students," you'll be one happy teacher. I say this every single day on my way in.

10. Kindergartners have so much love to give and need so much love in return. When your kiddos run up and hug you in the morning, hug them right back. Start the day off with a smile.

Now for your freebie!

I had someone purchase this pack a while ago.

I have color word labels included in this download (2 to a sheet) and a buyer requested a full page for each. Here they are for everyone! Click on the picture for your FREE download!

  34. I like this list. I would add to number 9 that you should do the same thing at the end of the day. Even on the toughest day, focus on what went well during the day, because, even on the toughest days, there are things that go well. Focus on those things on your way home. teachrmama@gmail.com
